What
is
Project
Lifesaver?
Project
Lifesaver
is
a
complete
program
integrating
law
enforcement,
search
and
rescue,
people
with
Alzheimer
Disease
or
related
dementia
and
their
caregivers
with
training,
technology
and
education.
This
eight-year-old
program
has
proven
to
save
lives
and
enables
those
conducting
the
search
to
save
time,
money
and
staffing.
Each
search
can
cost
as
much
as
$1500
USD
per
hour
and
run
as
much
as
$200,000
USD
or
more.
The
increasing
number
of
searches
that
are
required
due
to
wandering
puts
a
great
deal
of
pressure
on
already
tight
budgets.
Project
Lifesaver
is
the
only
public
safety
program
that
uses
electronic
tracking
equipment
to
locate
citizens
who
wander.
Project
Lifesaver
is
currently
operating
within
600
communities
throughout
North
America
with
8,000-10,000
active
users.
In
its
eight-year
history,
over
1500
searches
have
been
performed,
with
a
100%
success
rate
and
an
average
find
time
less
than
30
minutes.
Communities
that
have
implemented
Project
Lifesaver
experience
a
positive
community
impact
and
immediate
social
benefits.
Search
times
and
budgets
spent
by
First
Responder
to
locate
missing
persons
are
greatly
reduced.
Project
Lifesaver
dramatically
increases
the
chances
of
survival
for
the
person
who
has
wandered,
and
provides
caregivers
peace
of
mind.

How
the
Project
Lifesaver
program
works
A
medical
professional
must
identify
a
person
as
wander
prone
due
to
Alzheimer
Disease
or
related
dementia.
The
person
may
then
be
enrolled
as
a
Project
Lifesaver
client.
The
client
wears
a
small
radio
transmitter/
locator,
the
size
of
a
large
watch,
on
the
wrist
or
ankle
with
a
non-removable
strap.
If
a
client
wanders
away,
care
providers
immediately
call
911,
and
indicate
the
missing
person
is
a
participant
in
the
Project
Lifesaver
program.
First
responders
arrive
to
the
point
where
the
client
was
last
seen,
and
commence
their
search
using
the
locating
receiver
equipment.
The
locator
receiver
indicates
where
the
client
is
from
up
to
2
km
away,
allowing
them to
locate
the
client
quickly
and
return
them
to
safety.
